- MULCH – COCO FIBER (LONG)
Long coconut fibers are a great mulch layer for garden beds or container gardens. They are also very decorative soil surface cover for indoor or patio planters. This fibrous mulch is also great to use around leafy green crops to prevent soil splashing on the leaves due to heavy rains. Coconut fiber will decompose over time, adding to the organic matter content and health of the soil.
Coconut fibers come from the outer shell of the coconut husks. It is a natural waste product resulting from the processing of coconuts. Coir mulch holds 30 percent more water than peat. It absorbs water easily and drains well. This is an important benefit in drought-plagued areas, as use of mulch may reduce water use in the garden by as much as 50 percent.
Lay a thick layer (10-15cm) around your plants or over the planting area prior to planting. When the old mulch layer naturally breaks down, add new coco coir as needed.
Coconut fibers are -like coco peat- a type of coconut coir. Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. Coconut fibers are sources in Bali and made from a 100% natural and replenish-able source.
